Nice to meet you! My name is Kim Stenberg and I have been a Mortgage Broker since 2008. An Alberta girl through and through, I was born and raised in Edmonton, and now live in the beautiful little city of St. Albert. I’m a mom of three girls, and after hours you’ll probably find me as chauffeur and fan for their basketball, swimming, and cheer activities. I’m a foodie, sun worshipper, hot yogi, with a creative streak for DIY projects, home decor, and often have a paint brush in hand whether it be furniture, walls, or canvas.
My professional life started in the human resources field as a recruiter (aka “Headhunter”), where I spent 10 years working on placement of skilled trades & technical professionals for forest products, oil & gas, mining and manufacturing companies. In 2007, while on maternity leave with my first child, I started thinking about a change .. the Canadian real estate market was ROCKING, Alberta property values were soaring, realtors and brokers I spoke with couldn’t keep up! A friend introduced me to her world as a mortgage broker — it sounded perfect! — so, with baby on my lap, I completed the mortgage agent course, got licensed, and dove into a new career as a self-employed (and 100% commission) mortgage broker!
2008 … BOOM! No sooner I got licensed, came the global financial crisis, and everything changed. The U.S. housing market was shattered by the collapse of the subprime lending boom, central banks around the world cut interest rates to prevent devastation of another Great Depression, and our Canadian government started to worry about a housing bubble — enter the first major wave of mortgage stress tests, no more 40-year amortizations, and goodbye to several sub-prime lenders.
It’s been an amazing roller-coaster since then … market shifts, housing bubbles, economic ups and downs, even more government tightening, not to mention a global pandemic!
Through it all, adapting and finding new ways to help clients achieve their financial and home ownership goals. I have built my business by building lasting relationships with my clients, their referrals of family, friends, and co-workers; first homes, next homes, upsizing/downsizing, and helping navigate through life events – job loss, separations/divorce, career changes, retirement.
I LOVE THIS INDUSTRY and I look forward to working with you!
